Water Dance

My Water Dance quilt won a 2nd Place ribbon at the New Braunfels Quilt Fest!

Mark and I took a leisurely drive through the Texas Hill Country to get to New Braunfels.  The drive was beautiful and we were met with a very pleasant surprise when we checked in at the Quilt Fest!

My name was on the list of winners!  Woohoo!  I really loved making this quilt.  It was a lot of work but well worth the effort.  When I pick it up on Sunday, I will prepare Water Dance for a trip to it’s “forever home” in beautiful San Francisco!  I will be sorry to see it go, but am so happy to know that it will be lovingly cared for and enjoyed.

Well, back to work!  So many quilts…so little time!  🙂

Quips from the “Q”

10 Jul

Hello.
This is Dawn, here. I have decided that I want to start blogging. I don’t know if anyone is interested, but I believe it will be cathartic to write.
So the title, Quips from the Q refers to my sewing studio. Ginger & I decided that a good name for our collaboration was, “Rockin’ G Quilts”. Mark & I have always referred to our domicile as The Rockin’ G and since this is where the studio is located, the name seems fitting.
So my concept is to write a bit about what is going on at the Q.
The past few weeks, Mark has been absorbed in the World Cup. But that is in the house, not in the Q, so I regress.
I have been working on a couple of quilts that are entered in the AAQG “Fiesta” QuiltFest. I have a BIG king size quit that I am entering. I named it “La Feria de Colores”, which translates as the Festival of Colors. The other quilt we are entering is a collaboration between Ginger and me. Ginger made the blocks and sewed them into rows. I added some borders, quilted & sewed on the binding. I actually hand sewed the binding!! Right! I can’t believe it myself! But I have buckled to peer pressure and went for the “perfect” over the “easy”. Ok! Call me whatever you call someone that sews something by hand that could be done in a fraction of the time on a machine. I deserve it.
So 2 quilts are complete and have been entered in the AAQG QuiltFest. I have another quilt entered in the NBAQG quilt Fest, but that is another story.
Still need to add the sleeves and labels to the AAQG entries, but I have some time to get that done.
So all is well at the Q! I didn’t even get a chance to tell you about the great sister visit I just had at the Q! So I guess that too is another post.
Adios from the Q!
